The Friends of Eckhart Public Library, Inc. in Auburn, Indiana is a non-profit organization whose enthusiastic support makes many special library programs possible. Their book sales are dedicated to making significant contributions to the steady growth of the library and its services to the community. Friends help promote the library by sponsoring activities which encourage reading and broaden the user base of the library. Sponsored activities include: Annual Book Sales, Giving Thanks Silent Auction, Adult Programming, Book Clubs, Reading Clubs, Volunteer Luncheons, Teen Programing, Children’s Programing.
Join The Friends of Eckhart Public Library for their Annual Meeting
Tuesday, March 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the Willennar Genealogy Center.
The meeting will feature a presentation by Jon Bill entitled “The Auburn Automobile Administration and Engineering Building – The Story Behind the Landmark.”
Bill, of Auburn, is the curator at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum. A graduate of Purdue University, he majored in Industrial Education. Jon taught Technology Education for 34 years before joining the museum staff in June 2001. He has a lifelong interest in automobiles and industry. Jon is the author of four books on Auburns, Cords, and Duesenbergs for the Iconografix Photo Archive Series. He is a member of the Society of Automotive Historians, the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club and the Antique Automobile Club of America. He owns a 1936 Auburn sedan.
Bill’s presentation is part of a project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Indiana State Library.
The meeting also will include a business meeting, including election of officers. The proposed slate of officers is: Kathie Kock, president; Lynette Ebert, first vice president; Tom Woodfin, second vice president; Pat Kobiela, secretary; Loraine Hartranft, treasurer; and Alyce Schnelker, Ann Green, Keeley Ebert, Amy Douglas, and Richard Shankle, members-at-large. Library Director Janelle Graber serves at the library liaison.
|Art Show||Book Sales|
|Planning is underway for the 50th Annual Area Art Show and 7th Annual Teen Art Show, sponsored by the Friends of the Eckhart Public Library.|
The shows run Thursday, May 11, through Friday, May 19.
All entries must be an original work of art and produced within the last year. Classifications include oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor, drawings, ceramics, sculpture, fibers, jewelry, black and white photography, color photography, stained glass, woodworking, and mixed media. Monetary prizes will be awarded in each category. Artists who live or work in DeKalb, Noble, Steuben, and LaGrange counties are eligible for the Annual Art Show, while teens who live in DeKalb County or are enrolled at DeKalb Middle School or DeKalb High School for the 2016-2017 school year are eligible to participate in the Teen Art Show.
The exhibits will be open, free of charge, to the public.
