Learn a Language at the Library!

Increased interest in learning a new language has inspired the Eckhart Public Library to renew their annual subscription to a language-learning database. Powerspeak is available through the library’s public subscription and is free to EPL library card holders and onsite computer users.

It is an interactive bowser-based program, that makes language learning accessible to all library patrons. Library card holders can access it from anywhere with Internet service, and authentication is verified through a library card number, and then, once registered, a username and password.

Languages currently offered are Spanish, French, German, Mandarin, and English as a Second Language (ESL) for Spanish and Mandarin speaking individuals.

Individuals who are not Eckhart Public Library patrons may use Powerspeak by visiting the library and presenting photo identification to gain access to a public computer. Individual library subscriptions may be purchased to access all library databases from anywhere, in addition to borrowing books, audiobooks, magazines, music CDs, entertainment and nonfiction DVDs and more!
