Eckhart Public Library will be celebrating World Book Night on Wednesday, April 23rd! Each year, those participating in World Book Night give out 20 copies of one of the World Book Night selections to spread the love of reading and encourage literacy. Comedian Amy Poehler will be the honorary chairperson for World Book Night this year giving the following statement to UPI: ” “I’m thrilled to be part of World Book Night. People who read are people who dream, and we connect through the stories we live and tell and read”

The Children’s Department will be distributing copies of Hoot by Carl Hiaasen in the community. Hoot is the award-winning story of a young boy named Roy who gets involved with trying to save a group of owls in a Florida construction site.

The teen library will be distributing copies of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs at the teen library from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Miss Peregrine tells the story of Jacob, a boy who discoveries there is more truth than he realized to the stories of peculiar children that were told to him by his grandfather over the years.

This is the third year that the teen library has participated in World Book night; in previous years The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie and Looking for Alaska by John Green have been given out with great success.

Santa has been watching to see who has been naughty or nice. He is anxiously awaiting Christmas wish lists from children! Youngsters may mail their holiday letters to Santa from the “North Pole Mailbox” located by the elevator in the Children’s Department. Santa promises to write back to each child if their name and address are included with their letter.

Due to Santa’s busy schedule, all letters must be received by Tuesday, December 17. This will give him plenty of time to respond and pack his sleigh for Christmas Eve deliveries.
